[UK] Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall pull a pint after popping into village pub
PRINCE Charles and Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, paid an unlikely visit to a small village on the outskirts of Grantham on Tuesday afternoon.
The Royal couple were on a tour of the county and decided to stop off in Burton-le-Coggles to see the success being made of the village pub and farm shop at The Cholmeley Arms.
In wet and windy weather, the Prince arrived to be greeted by schoolchildren from Charles Read High School and Corby Glen Primary School.
Ruby Earl of Charles Read presented Camilla with a bouquet of flowers on her arrival.
Proud mum Natasha Earl said: “She was really excited and wanted to know if she could give Camilla a kiss.
“It’s really big news for the village - everyone has been talking about it.”
The Prince was shown around the village farm shop, praising the bread on sale courtesy Bloomsbury Bakery of Inner Street, Grantham.
Sam Markiewicz of Bloomsbury said: “He told us he couldn’t believe we’d all been standing out here in the cold and Camilla said how nice the bread looked.”
The Prince then headed into the pub where he poured himself a pint of Newton’s Drop Ale - brewed here in Grantham by Oldershaw Brewery.
Kathy Britton, of Oldershaw’s said: “We are so proud that Prince Charles pulled a pint of our beer.
“We do whatever we can to support local pubs, after all they are our customers, and The Cholmeley Arms is a fantastic example of a proper local pub that really serves its whole community.”
Lesley and John Berry became tenants of the Cholmeley Arms, which is owned by the Easton Estate, in 2009 after it had been closed down. Since then they have turned it around and opened up a village farm shop.
Villager Judy Carr of the Old Chapel, Burton-le-Coggles, said: “John and Leslie coming here and taking over the pub is the best thing that’s ever happened to this village.”
As he left Prince Charles waved to the dozens of people who had come out despite the weather to support his visit. As he got into his car and pulled away, villagers cheered as he went.
Cholmeley Arms landlady Lesley Berry said: “He was just great and really put us all at ease. They are a lovely couple.”

At her wedding, the Prince of Wales is said to have told guests that she was "the daughter he never had".
So it was fitting that the Duchess of Cambridge stepped in for her new father-in-law when he had to drop out of an official engagement this week.
The heir to the throne had travelled to Riyadh to present his condolences to the Saudi Royal Family following the death of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.
In his absence from the Clarence House reception, Kate was the epitome of a gracious hostess, looking typically elegant in a long pale blue evening gown that showed off her toned figure.
A St James's Palace spokesman said: ''The Duchess of Cambridge was delighted to be able to step in for her father-in-law, The Prince of Wales, to celebrate the work of In Kind Direct at the dinner.''
''She was so pleased that her first solo engagement was for the Prince of Wales, who has shown her so much support over the years.''
The soiree was for In Kind Direct, the charity founded by Charles in 1996 to redistributes surplus goods from manufacturers and retailers to charities.
Chief executive Robin Boles: "We were delighted that the Duchess was able to step in at such short notice after our founder was unexpectedly called away.
"The Duchess hosted a very special evening with absolute professionalism and charm."

Possible conversation between the Prince of Wales and President Barack Obama today at the White House
BO: "So, how was the wedding? I couldn't see it all... you know... OBL and all..."
PoW: "It was fantastic. I enjoyed it a lot. Can you imagine getting one of your girls married?"
BO (yellow smile): "Ah... let's not think about it just yet..."
PoW: "No, but really..."
BO: "Just drink your tea, man. Drink your tea. Want an apple?".
Now, off to the real deal; according to Hellomagazine, the Prince of Wales and the President of the United States met in Washington on Wednesday to discuss energy and environmental issues.
But indulging in a spot of small talk with the royal before getting down to the issues at hand, Barack Obama spoke of how the royal wedding had mesmerised the US.
The 49-year-old also expressed his amazement at how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge handled the enormous amount of pressure that accompanied the nuptials. He added that he himself could not have dealt with the pressures such a situation entailed.
The conversation at the White House then turned to the military, and Prince Charles revealed he was highly concerned when Prince Harry served for 10 weeks in Afghanistan.
The White House later issued a statement saying: "President Obama warmly welcomed the Prince's work over three decades on environmental issues, halting deforestation and encouraging sustainable food production.
"The president also congratulated the Prince on the wedding of his son, Prince William, to Catherine Middleton and extended his best wishes to the newlywed couple."

[United-Kingdom] Prince William will spend night before wedding with his father and brother
Although being quite a modern couple, in line with tradition, Prince William and Kate Middleton will spend the night before their wedding apart. And new reports have revealed that the Prince, 28, will be spending his with his father and brother Harry at St James' Palace.
"Prince Charles is a loving father who's a lot closer to his sons than people often realise," said a royal source.
"He's made it clear his priority in the hours before the wedding is his son."
Charles, 62, will return from his Easter break in Birkhall, Scotland, to be with William ahead of the biggest day of his life. St James' Palace is across the way from the Goring Hotel, where bride Kate, 29, will spend her last night before embarking upon life as a Princess.

He was baptised in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace on 4 August 1982 (his paternal great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's 82nd birthday).

But who will pay for Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding? #royalwedding
Prince Charles is expected to fork out millions of pounds for his son’s wedding, royal aides said last night. But Prince William and Kate Middleton’s ceremony will still leave the taxpayer with a security tab of tens of millions of pounds as the rest of recession-hit Britain tightens its belt. Last night it was looking increasingly likely that the Prince of Wales, with possible assistance from his mother the Queen, will fund the ceremony and reception.
Kate’s parents, Michael and Carole, will not be asked to make a contribution. Charles would fund the wedding by digging into his wealth from the Duchy of Cornwall estate, estimated to be worth £1billion.
St James’s Palace, which represents William and Kate, said they will have an austere ceremony that will not weigh too heavily on taxpayers.
Plans are being drawn up in the knowledge that an ostentatious display would sit uneasily alongside cuts unveiled in last month’s Comprehensive Spending Review, which could see half a million lose their jobs in the next five years.
But even Charles and Camilla’s ‘modest’ register officer wedding five years ago cost £5million, while Charles and Diana’s ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral cost £4million back in 1981.
Next year’s event will dwarf these figures, with some estimates suggesting it could reach between £20million and £40million.
The Palace insisted details of the arrangement are still being worked out, as William and Kate sat down for intense planning meetings with staff.
But a senior courtier said: ‘Both the Prince of Wales and the Queen will contribute towards the cost of the wedding. It will be a family contribution. In particular, if the reception is held at Buckingham Palace, the Queen will pay for that.’
Traditionally, the father of the bride pays for his daughter’s wedding. But in this case it is thought Mr Middleton will not be pressured to pitch in.

Sources suggested his family, which runs a small party planning business, are likely to offer to pay for Kate’s dress or the pair’s honeymoon, but this would be of their own volition.
A bespoke dress can be bought for as little as £6,000 but would reach five figures for a designer label and could end up costing as much as £100,000.
Professor Gary Slapper, a constitutional expert at the Open University, said: ‘Funding for the wedding could of course come from public funds, as the monarchy is a key part of our constitution.
‘But the monarchy is dependent on public goodwill, and with all the talk of austerity, it will be difficult to suggest that a particularly extravagant wedding should be borne by the public. I would think their private wealth would be a more intelligent source of money. It would be much more likely to come from Prince Charles.’
Prince Charles' wedding to Diana in 1981 was extravagant and William is under pressure to rein his in Charles is expected to offer to pay for the venue – Westminster Abbey – and the private wedding breakfast out of his private funds. But the source of the funding for a banquet for visiting heads of state remains unclear. The wedding will not be classed as a state occasion because William is not yet a direct heir to the throne, another reason why his family will be expected to pay out. But taxpayers will still have to pay the enormous police bill. The G20 protests in London last year ran up a £7.4million bill for the Metropolitan Police.
A two-day lock-down in the centre of the capital and the involvement of dignitaries from the around the world could triple that figure to £20million.
A well-placed security source told the Mail: ‘It all depends on how big it will be and how many world leaders and VIPs will be invited. The more there are the more it will cost.’

Prince William attended Remembrance day in Afghanistan while his family was back home
As the Last Post sounded at the Remembrance Day service in London, Prince William was thousands of miles away in Afghanistan remembering those killed in combat there. In what was described by the Royal Legion as a "huge gesture of respect and fellowship" he joined a military congregation in Helmand Province.
The Prince, a search and rescue pilot, laid a wreath at Camp Bastion. Attached was a note reading: "For Jo, Lex and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country". He was a personal friend of 2nd Lt Joanna Dyer who was killed in the Afghan conflict three years ago. Major Lex Roberts, his platoon commander, died in Iraq in May 2007.
Back in Britain, under skies heavy with rain, the Queen led the nation's tributes to past and present servicemen, leaving her wreath at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. Young and old joined medalled war veterans, as well as political leaders and their wives, in the traditional two-minute silence that began at 11am on the first stroke of Big Ben.
They watched as 8,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen paraded solemnly through the streets in honour of their fallen comrades.
