But who is Prince Philippe? Philip? Felipe? Filip? Philipp? Philippos?

It might have happened to you - or not, if you are an amazing royal watcher or you just do not care that much - to stumble into a "Prince Philippe did this..." and if you have no mention of the City/Country of action, you don't know exactly who it is. In Italy, France, Germany, The Netherlands, the name "Philip" was massively used as a regal name, such as George, Edward, John, Carl, Albert and so on. The major difference resides in the spelling according to the country. But if you read Spanish newspapers, you might have noticed that they "translate" names. No Queen Elizabeth II there, they call her "Isabel II". Yeah...

So, back at the Philips! First, top right, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the consort of Queen Elisabeth before-mentioned. Bottom right, Felipe, the Prince of Asturias, heir apparent to the Spanish throne. Bottom left, Prince Philippe, the Duke of Brabant, future King of the Belgians. And top left, he is not really (just a) Philip, but Carl Philip, brother of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and always a good reason to fit in a montage.

Second, from non-reigning houses, we have on top left Prince Philippos of Greece and Denmark, son of former King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece. Top right, Philipp, prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, bottom right Prince Filip of Yugoslavia and bottom left, Philipp, Prince of Hesse.

[Spain] Spanish Royal family together (exception to Infanta Cristina's family) to attend Cirque du Soleil

Spanish Prince and Princess of Asturias inaugurate Instituto Cervantes in Hamburg, Germany

The Prince and Princess of Asturias traveled to Germany to inaugurate the headquarters of the Instituto Cervantes in Hamburg, is in the Chilehaus building, an architectural jewel of the twenties located two steps from the harbor and the town hall in the heart of the German metropolis. Upon arrival, they received the affection of those present and Princess Letizia was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

During his speech, Prince Felipe talked about the so-called "crisis of cucumber" and stressed that the "excellent relations" and "deep friendship" between Spain and Germany, will help, along with the European Union, to find a solution to the problem happening with the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector. To conclude, the prince sent the authorities his "deepest and sincere condolences" of Spain deaths to the outbreak of E. coli and wished many victims to recover as soon as possible: "The Princess and I would dedicate these feelings, with all our heart, to the family members and friends of all the victims and also to the authorities. "

Moreover, the Prince of Asturias said that "the interest in Spanish continues to grow as a result of greater exchange of goods and services, investment flows, or cooperation in R&D with the Latin American region growing intensively in recent years, despite the international economic and financial crisis, with increasingly important role internationally. "

After his speech, Felipe discovered near Princess Letizia a commemorative plaque and toured the facilities of the new headquarters next to the center's director, Helena Cortez Gabaudan, head of the Instituto Cervantes and Carmen Caffarel, the second mayor of Hamburg, Dorothee Stapelfeldt, and the Secretaries of State for Foreign Affairs of Germany, Wolf-Ruthart Born, and Foreign Affairs Secretary of Spain and Latin America, Juan Antonio Yanez-Barnuevo.

During his visit, the Prince and Princess of Asturias inaugurated an exhibition of paintings by the Argentinian artist Martha Zuik, which displays 30 oils and acrylics painted on canvas and paper, and visited the library, which has 9,000 volumes. A particularly one has more than 1,500 DVD movies in Spanish and nearly 3,000 books to teach Spanish as a foreign language.

Prince Felipe of Asturias to attend UEFA Champions League 2011 Final in London

We all know and have noticed, over the year, the enthusiasm of our favorite royals when it comes to sports, like Soccer (Football), Tennis, Formula 1, Sailing, and, of course, the Olympics, among others. 

Next week, according to Casa Real, on May 28th, the Prince of Asturias will be back to London - he was there exactly a month ago for you know what - to attend the final of the Champions League. Why? Barcelona will be playing against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. 

According to Hola, the Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, will also attend and is hoping for a victory of the Barça team. Barcelona Football Club will return to Wembley for the final of this European competition 19 years after, in the very same stadium, it had won its first European Cup on 20 May 1992 against Sampdoria from Genoa.

[Spain] Royal family attended funeral for a 41-year-old family member

Just a few days after attending a funeral with the families of the victims of families in Lorca, Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia had yet to attend another one, but this time for a member of their family.

Together with Queen Sofia, the Prince and Princess of Asturias came to the parish of Santa Teresa in Colmenar Viejo to say their last goodbyes to Fernando Moreno de Bourbon, a nephew of King Juan Carlos, who died last May 13th, victim of a motorbike accident at only 41 years of age.

With a black business suit and with little makeup, Princess of Asturias, who did not leave a single moment on the side of her husband, reunited inside the church with Infanta Elena and sisters of the King - Doña Pilar and Doña Margarita - who also came to pay their last respects. The great absentee in this emotional funeral, was the King, who was on official duty with the Order of Isabel the Catholic at the Academy of Engineers in Hoyo de Manzanares in Madrid, during the celebration of the 300 years of the Academy.

[Spain] Prince and Princess of Asturias mourn with families after earthquake

The Prince and Princess of Asturias comforted relatives of nine people killed in Spain's deadliest earthquakes in more than 50 years, hugging them and shaking their hands Friday as the royals slowly made their way along a long row of mourners.

Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia bent down to chat with the mourners at a crowded funeral Mass celebrated in a trade center, part of which has been turned into a makeshift refugee camp after two quakes Wednesday left many homeless in the southeastern agricultural city of Lorca.

Many of those in the front row at the Mass wore dark glasses. At one point, the prince stooped down to speak to a boy and affectionately ruffled the child's dark hair.

Spanish survey estimates Prince Felipe of Asturias is ready to succeed to his father King Juan Carlos I

According to a recent survey made by Pulse of the Fundación José Ortega y Gasset and Gregorio Marañón, 69% of those who voted for the Left party in the last general elections also believes that, eventually, Prince Felipe is ready to succeed to King Juan Carlos I. 

The report, conducted through 5,000 surveys from 24 September to 5 November 2010, also reflects the parliamentary monarchy political system remains the most preferred by the Spanish, but his support has declined over the last two years from 72 to 57%, while the Republican option grew from 11 to 35%. 

The positive view of social support that will Rey Don Felipe and future is more widespread among the Spanish under 35 years (78 percent) than among those over 55 (74%) and 83 per Share percent of respondents aged between 35 and 54. The Spanish give an average rating of 6.7, the way the Prince of Asturias functions currently performed as a result of scores ranging from an average of 7.3 of the voters of PP, 6.8 for those who chose by the PSOE in the 2008 elections and 4.9 IU of those who voted. 

Although similar levels, the survey shows a higher proportion of positive responses from the PSOE voters than among the PP to questions about whether social support will be needed to succeed the King (83% versus 79) and if he is properly prepared to assume the status of head of state (as well as create a 89% of Socialist voters and 88 of the PP). As to the form of state, 81% of those who voted in 2008 IU prefer that Spain is a republic, an option that shares 40% of the voters of the PSOE and 15% of the PP. 

King Juan Carlos received from the Spanish average score of 7.3 by the way he has performed his duties as head of state during his 35 year reign, a note that rises to 7.5 in the case of voters PSOE, reached 7.8 between the PP and falls to 5.5 among those who voted to IU. The report also shows that 74% of respondents believe that the Spanish monarchy is firmly established and 56% believe it brings stability and calmness to political life, but 65 says that "it has been useful for the transition to democracy, but as time passes it makes less sense."

[Beatification of Pope John Paul II] The Prince and Princess of Asturias

Pope Benedict XVI beatified Pope John Paul II before more than a million faithful in St. Peter’s Square and surrounding streets Sunday, moving the beloved former pontiff one step closer to possible sainthood.

The crowd in Rome and in capitals around the world erupted in cheers, tears and applause as an enormous photo of a young, smiling John Paul was unveiled over the loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica and a choir launched into hymn long associated with the Polish-born pope. Princess Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias attended with royal members from Europe.
